Royal Ontario Museum
The Royal Ontario Museum selected PriWatt switchable privacy film as part of an interactive exhibit designed to transform the way visitors engage with historical artifacts and cultural storytelling.

Rather than presenting objects in a traditional static display, the exhibit uses smart glass technology to create moments of discovery. When inactive, the display case remains opaque, concealing its contents from view. At the touch of a button, the PriWatt™ film instantly transitions from private to transparent, revealing artifacts that were previously hidden behind the glass.
This controlled reveal transforms a simple display case into an immersive educational experience. Visitors become active participants in the exhibit, creating anticipation and curiosity before uncovering the objects within. The result is a more memorable interaction that encourages engagement, learning, and exploration.
The featured exhibit explores the history and practices of the Native American Church and the ceremonial traditions associated with peyote healing practices. Through the use of PriWatt™ technology, museum visitors experience a carefully orchestrated presentation that supports the exhibit’s educational objectives while protecting and preserving the displayed items when not actively being viewed.
Beyond creating a compelling visitor experience, switchable privacy technology offers practical advantages for museums and cultural institutions. Smart glass can help control visual access to sensitive artifacts, reduce visual clutter within galleries, support exhibit storytelling, and provide flexible display environments that can adapt to changing curatorial requirements.

The project demonstrates how PriWatt™ smart glass technology can be successfully integrated into museums, cultural institutions, visitor centers, science centers, educational facilities, and experiential exhibits where engagement, preservation, and presentation quality are equally important.
